On November 23, we hosted the latest edition of the WP Capture the Flag (CTF) event, and it exceeded all expectations. Over 80 students from across Europe – hailing from the Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Italy, and beyond – came together at the Würth Phoenix HQ in Bozen/Bolzano for this exciting cybersecurity challenge.
A Capture the Flag (CTF) event is a competitive cybersecurity exercise where participants solve a series of challenges to uncover hidden “flags” within systems, applications, or networks. It’s an exciting way to apply technical knowledge to real-world problems, test critical thinking, and hone cyber defense skills in a dynamic environment.
Crafted by our expert developers, the challenges tested participants on creativity, technical skills, and strategic thinking. From cracking codes to solving real-world scenarios, the energy in the room was electric. It was incredible to witness such a diverse group of talented individuals tackle these tasks head-on.
But the day didn’t end with the competition. Participants were invited to an exclusive afterparty, where they had the chance to connect with industry professionals in a relaxed setting. This informal gathering encouraged meaningful conversations, insights, and networking opportunities, adding another layer of value to the event.
None of this would have been possible without our amazing sponsors:
Their support allowed us to create an experience that went beyond just solving challenges.
This year, we were excited to welcome Würth IT participants Manuel Villotti, Alexander Bieber, Tim Marx, Roman Würtemberger, Marvin-Rene Philipp, and Nora Baitinger who joined the WP CTF as the team ‘WIT Observers.’ Participating alongside our cyber defense team, they’ll used the event as a unique team-building experience and an opportunity to put their skills to the test in a competitive setting – though, of course, not competing for the student prizes.
WP CTF is more than a competition – it’s a space where ideas are shared, connections are made, and the future of cybersecurity takes shape. Congratulations to all participants for their exceptional efforts and to the winning teams for their brilliant performances. And shoutout to everyone for making this event expectational. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event.
