WP CTF 2023: the ultimate cyber security challenge!

On Saturday, 25 November 2023, the second WP CTF was held at our headquarters in Bolzano in partnership with the renowned universities of Verona, Padua, Trento and Bolzano.
“Würth Phoenix Capture the Flag” is a cyber security competition to see who can capture (or “steal”) flags by completing hacking tasks. The participants – more than 50 students – experienced a thrilling and adrenaline-charged event once again this year.

Team Pearàk from the University of Verona emerged as the undisputed winners of the day. They displayed incredible talent in identifying and cracking eleven vulnerabilities, scoring a total of 2195 points. Alessandro Righi, Cristiano Di Bari, Andres Ochoa Hernandez and Enrico Lonardi secured first prize, receiving special recognition from Hubert Kofler and Michael Piok, CEO of Würth Phoenix, together with Petra Chistè, Security Officer at Volksbank, the generous gold sponsor of the event. Second place went to team Mariio from the University of Trento, who showed remarkable skill and determination. In third place were Cyb3rM0nk3ys from the University of Verona, who were also praised for their impressive performance.

The event was not limited to IT challenges, however, as there was also time for entertainment and networking. The students were able to chat to professionals in the industry, picking up practical advice and tips on IT security.
